DESCRIPTION:‘Bee’ creative with us! Build nesting boxes for insects that help with pollination and pest control for your garden! \n\n\n\n‘Bee’ creative with us at our next Make and Take! Using cedar wood frames and organic materials found right here at Windmill Island Gardens\, our Horticulture staff will lead participants in crafting their very own Bee Hotels to hang in their garden spaces at home. These hotels are full of cozy cavities\, perfect for bees and other insects to make their own\, and a great way to protect your local pollinators in style! This is a cost effective and decorative way to build solitary insects a home while helping pollinators and reducing the use of chemicals for pest control for our gardens. \n\n\n\nMake and Takes – Bee Hotels will take place on Tuesday\, April 14 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm at Windmill Island Gardens (1 Lincoln Ave\, Holland\, MI 49423). Registration is $40 per person and includes all needed supplies\, no experience is necessary. Participants will all leave with their 8in x 3in x 12in unique Bee Hotels to take home. DESCRIPTION:Join Windmill Island Gardens for the first day of the 2025 season on April 14!  \n\n\n\nMany visitors to Holland are looking for signs of our Dutch heritage and find examples all throughout town. However\, THE place to go to get a taste of our area’s Dutch history and culture is Windmill Island Gardens! \n\n\n\nFortunately\, a group of City Fathers in the 1950s and 60s recognized the importance of keeping our heritage alive as well as providing a place where community-members and visitors could gather. They were able to procure the last working windmill allowed to leave the Netherlands in 1964. The historic windmill ‘de Zwaan’ is the highlight of our park and stands amongst 36 acres of exhibits\, gardens and natural areas. The mill still turns and grinds grain into flour and a tour up 5 floors is the highlight of any visit to the park. \n\n\n\nAdmission is $13 for adults and $6 for ages 3 to 15. Holland residents are admitted free of charge with their Holland\, MI drivers license with the exception of Tulip Time and special events.
